Flat means that it reproduces evenly and consistently across the frequency spectrum. Also, I don't care what any manufacturer says, flat headphones don't exist. There are some that are better than others, but there is always a compromise somewhere.

You may want to ammend your question to describe where you intend to use your headphones, and for what purpose. People here can give you good suggestions, but application matters.

Flat response just means that the output of the headphones is equal at all frequencies.

In order for headphones to have a flat response they usually need to be open backed, which makes them not suitable for monitoring with live microphones.

There is no such thing as a flat response for loudspeakers/headphones but some get close.

Choosing headphones is very personal, I am a Beyerdynamic fan, others Sennheiser or Sony etc.

The best thing is to try lots.

There is no flat frequency response because of the game! This is a sly racket and is designed to make you mix your music forever on garbage, and to get you to buy headphones one after another as different chaotic monitors take over. Notice how the trickster boys in Hollywood can mix perfection, but you can't, and they control all the hundred million dollar artists! Do you get it? Bass and treble extremes on headphones & speakers are all over the place, and yet nothing is ever corrected or regulated. Do I hear political games? This industry needs extreme severe regulation as to its BS claims, so does the TV industry who can't even adjust the normal or standard setting on a TV correctly without turning everything on in the advanced menu and messing everything up. Total absolute insanity, as all corporate pirating politics is. Ask those so called honest people on wall street, banking, music payola, big oil, health care fraud, price fixing, price gouging and zillion of other corrupting disaster of which the public has no conception of, here in the good old U.S.A.
