I use the Røde NT4 with the Edirol, but I would really like to have a setup that is a bit more portable, so that I can have it with me all of the time.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/579/tripods-grips-for-handheld-recorders/581#581 Answer by Hugo for Tripods/Grips for Handheld Recorders Hugo 2010-04-05T18:22:38Z 2010-04-05T18:22:38Z
What about the Gorillapod? I haven't used it myself, but I think it is a great little tripod which is extremely flexible so you can even fold it around the branches of a tree. This would be my choice.
http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/347/what-is-the-best-setting-for-exhibiting-sound-art What is the best setting for exhibiting sound art? Hugo 2010-03-15T16:42:20Z 2010-03-30T06:23:17Z
Most galleries and museums have concrete walls which cause a lot of reflection and standing waves. Most of the time a lot of effort is put into making a place look good, but does it also sound good?

An exhibition of multiple sound installations also will not work, as the sounds will interefere with each other. So it seems like a venue created to show visual art is not suitable for sound art.

Can you think of a solution for this?
http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/490/is-what-we-hear-as-important-as-what-we-see-in-contemporary-media-experience Is what we hear as important as what we see in contemporary media experience? Hugo 2010-03-26T16:33:31Z 2010-03-26T17:53:49Z
This might not be the right place to get an objective answer to this question, as I assume most of us value sound higher than the average person, but could we even say sound is just as important as what we see, and if we take away or change the sound from a movie, the overall experience will be changed completely?
http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/470/do-you-trust-firewire-audio-interfaces-for-live-performance/483#483 Answer by Hugo for Do you trust Firewire Audio Interfaces for live performance? Hugo 2010-03-25T15:50:04Z 2010-03-25T15:50:04Z
I've been using an M-Audio Firewire 410 for some time. I like its functionality but I don't like it for reliability. And the fact that you have to turn off your computer when you connect it is just too annoying. I once had a live performance with it, using an old white iBook, and it started to act strange just before the show. Maybe I hot-swapped it against the rules, but I had to restart the iBook and somehow it took 10 minutes to come back to life. I wouldn't use it in such a situation again.

So I bought an Apogee Duet, and never had any problems with it. It just works fine all the time, and it integrates with (Apple) software nicely. So I absolutely prefer the Duet to the 410, and would use the Duet on stage without hesitation.
http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/82/what-are-your-favourite-sounds/345#345 Answer by Hugo for What are your favourite sounds? Hugo 2010-03-15T16:28:14Z 2010-03-15T16:28:14Z
This list looks a lot like the Five Sound Questions I ask sound artists and sound designers on my blog Everyday Listening.

Did it inspire you or did we think of the same questions at the same time?
http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/579/tripods-grips-for-handheld-recorders/581#581 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-04-15T18:49:53Z 2010-04-15T18:49:53Z You're welcome Joel. I hope it makes your recordings sound great! http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/542/closed-headphones-closed-the-best-for-like-175-max-which-ones/560#560 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-04-05T18:17:07Z 2010-04-05T18:17:07Z I own the DT770 and I liked it from the beginning. Great closed headphones. http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/347/what-is-the-best-setting-for-exhibiting-sound-art/353#353 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-03-25T15:58:01Z 2010-03-25T15:58:01Z I've never tried that, Andrew, but if I do I will let you know :) http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/82/what-are-your-favourite-sounds/345#345 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-03-25T15:55:27Z 2010-03-25T15:55:27Z Thank you very much, Stephen! It is funny to see we had the same idea at the same time. I really like the answers people are giving on my blog, and I am planning to continue the series much longer. In fact, you might get an invitation to participate as well, I hope you would like to :) http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/347/what-is-the-best-setting-for-exhibiting-sound-art/353#353 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-03-16T15:50:29Z 2010-03-16T15:50:29Z Nice idea to use absorbers and bass traps as a canvas :) I also agree with your fourth point. The architecture of a space and its acousitcs should be taken into consideration while creating a site-specific work of art. Would probably be best to work with a convolution reverb and make an impulse-response of the space? http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/347/what-is-the-best-setting-for-exhibiting-sound-art/348#348 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-03-16T15:47:19Z 2010-03-16T15:47:19Z Good answers. I wouldn't like to use headphones, as they tend to separate the visitor from the space and create a distance between the 'sound space' in a visitors head and the physical space. http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/324/organizing-libraries/327#327 Comment by Hugo Hugo 2010-03-15T16:17:34Z 2010-03-15T16:17:34Z I am still looking for a good piece of library software. Soundminer is ridiculously expensive in my opinion, and a program like Audio Finder by Iced Audio doesn't appeal to me. Even audio software should have a clean and good looking user interface.
