I've tried AAF, exporting XML, exporting edl, and exporting avid compatable AAF, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way of getting the Sony Vegas session to PT9. bouncing down stems is not an option.

Anyone have any real world experience in this?

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/12976/start-charging-clients/12998#12998Answer by Sean for Start Charging clients?Sean2012-03-10T12:43:47Z2012-03-10T12:43:47Z
There's no tactful way to bring it up. Be a straight shoot and just ask to speak with the person (who writes the checks) after a rehearsal. Tell them you need to start paying some bills like the rest of the world and your hourly rate is xx per hour and do they prefer invoicing or a weekly time card. Then shut up.

Don't say anything till they finish there rebuttal. If they really value your work, they'll easily pay your rate and it'll be a done matter.

If not, then explain to them the hours and type of work you put into their business, just like electricity, it's a bill, not an option not to have sound.

Can't believe your 'friend' would dare to ask you this. It's the equivalent of him ripping off a Hollywood script and passing it off as his own.

A) never compromise your own personal integrity.
B) free gigs never turn out well. Tell your friend to start paying you min wage for the project. Money begets respect. Respect for your time and respect for your creative decisions. I've done favors for people before and it usually doesn't end well.
C) you can have the director pick and choose his sfx from soundsnap and then he can have 'Hollywood' sounds legally.

It's not what sounds you have, it's what you do with them.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/6698/se-electronics-reflexion-to-improve-field-recording/7192#7192Answer by Sean for sE Electronics Reflexion to improve field recordingSean2011-04-09T00:37:45Z2011-04-09T00:37:45Z
Like others have said... in your specific situation... the best thing to do to isolate reflections would be sound blankets/moving blankets. LOTS of them. you can rent them or buy them.

Personally, after owning both the H4N and NTG-2, the NTG-2 mic blows the onboard mics away...no contest. However, you don't need a NTG-2 to take great foley takes. For stuff like this, which may have high impacts, you may want to use a dynamic mic (super / hyper cardiod preferred, but not required)

For very low frequency sounds, a large diaphragm dynamic or tube mic works great.

For quiet sounds, use your best condenser mic you have.

side note, I'd also recommend building a few absorption panels as those can be helpful in controlling lower frequency reflections.

Now I have awake and dim (theatre) mode for my lighting. I liked editing audio and watching films in the dark. Anything I need to be speedy about I turn on the lights as I'm more awake with the lights up.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/7178/boom-pole-tricks-to-reduce-handling-noise/7181#7181Answer by Sean for Boom pole tricks to reduce handling noise.Sean2011-04-08T22:05:14Z2011-04-08T22:05:14Z
Typically if you get a lot of handling noise its caused by 2 things..

A) the cable (needs to be taped/velcro down in place.
B) The shock mount twisted too tight to the boom pole. - when this happens, all the vibrations go straight through the shock mount to the mic.

I recommend using cotton 3/4 gloves. This allows you to articulate the boom smoothly in your palm, but use your fingers for grip.

In short, I attended and graduated (with honors) from an audio production school (IADT Tampa). I not only worked on school projects, but outside projects as well. This included short films, features, animation, voice overs, radio adverts, and a whole lot of music mixing or mastering.

I've created a double disc demo reel (1 disc for music, 1 disc for post/sound design) and posted some of my work on my website http://viproductions.net/web1/portfolio/portfolio.html

I'm having trouble finding an additional internships. (I know I have much much more to learn). The company I interned at for school seems to have dried up and closed, so I can't even get a referral from them.

I have a family and can't immediately move out of the Tampa area, however I am willing to travel up to 100 miles for the right opportunity.

Any suggestions?

All synth based. Sounds together had cohesion, but not with the scene shown. Like the previous person posted, needs additional sounds to bring a person into the environment.

Dinner with a movie:
More appropriate sound design, but sound seems to lose cohesion with eachother. No room tone to link the sounds together. Personally, I didn't like the tv reverse vox thing.

I personally love WaveArts restoration package as its low cpu usage.

However, each VO artist is different.

However as you're opposed to practical advice, I can only say what has worked good for me.
Use a boom mic and point it at the persons chest / diaphram. This should eliminate MOST of the mouth noises while retaining the majority of the clarity of sound.

Since you even asked the question, it seems you have no experience converting Sony Vegas sessions for use in PT for sound editing / final mix. http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/7104/starting-before-picture-lock/7122#7122Comment by SeanSean2011-04-08T18:31:04Z2011-04-08T18:31:04ZEverything Rene says is right. My work flow consists of the following...
A) read the script from beginning to end. Notate anything that could be sound related or need foley created for it.
B) Speak to both the director. ask him what kind of feel he's going for for the film. (Ask for a reference if possible) then research that reference.
C) Speak with the editor. Have an understanding about audio. Is he/she going to trim things, or will he/she leave it to you. (hopefully the later). Ask for a time frame for the first rough cut. http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/1945/audio-postproduction-sound-design-resources-youd-recommend/1952#1952Comment by SeanSean2011-04-08T15:53:54Z2011-04-08T15:53:54ZThis book should be at the top of the list.
