Mixed frame rates is not a good idea. I'm not even sure how they can do a proper edit with all the audio out of sync? They probably said, oh let audio post fix it, when they could have at least changed the audio tc and then sync'ed it first.

I'd be surprised if the producer is fine with this, if they are, just bill them for the extra time it'll take to manually sync all the clips. Even a syncing patch job is a bad idea.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/19101/when-do-you-record-room-tone-on-set/19104#19104Answer by Flipstar for When do you record room tone on set?Flipstar2013-05-06T14:56:47Z2013-05-06T14:56:47Z
Sometimes I ask that the Director to wait a few seconds after frame is called by the cam operator. If there's not enough time there. I ask for 15 seconds to 30 seconds of quiet before cut is called on the 'final' take of a scene.

The truth is room tone is mostly used from the takes themselves.. not from the separate room tone recording. The only time you really need room tone on a separate recording is if the ambiance is inconsistent or noisy.

Getting room tone at the end of the day usually doesn't work and a PITA to get.

In my 788T I go with the Sandisk 16gb 400x cards.

I agree with Tim though. When you're using a 722, I would just ask the students to only pull their files from the CF cards and not connect directly to the 722.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/12383/lav-mic-wireless-transmitter-receiver-combinations/12385#12385Answer by Flipstar for lav mic, wireless transmitter/receiver combinationsFlipstar2012-01-26T06:52:12Z2012-01-26T06:52:12Z
Lectrosonics, Zaxcom and Audio Ltd. are probably the most widely used in higher budget productions.

Unfortunately, each company pretty much has their own wiring schemes for lavalieres. It is possible to create 'jumper' cables. Like put a Sanken COS-11 wired TA5F for Lectrosonics to a Sennheiser 1/8" mini connector. Even doing that isn't ideal... but it works.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/9392/who-is-responsible-for-bring-the-tc-slate-to-set/9402#9402Answer by Flipstar for Who is responsible for bring the TC slate to set...Flipstar2011-08-01T20:15:30Z2011-08-01T20:15:30Z
In North America the sound department usually carries the slate as well as any other timecode equipment such as lock-it boxes.

We usually carry the TC equipment because we are the ones that usually jam them from our audio equipment. Of course, most of us soundies believe that the slate should rest upon the camera department since they're the ones carrying the damn thing around. :)

I guess we do it different from the Netherlands. Out here the soundies carry the TC slate, and the Acs carry the traditional slates.

The 2nd AC is also known as the clapper/loader meaning they will handle the slating and camera mags. In Canada, I've never seen a single 2nd AC bring their own timecode slate, and most sound people (even the Holllywood mixers) bring their own slate and sometimes two or more.

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/8715/apple-vs-windows-7-laptops/8717#8717Answer by Flipstar for Apple vs. Windows 7 LaptopsFlipstar2011-06-16T23:08:38Z2011-06-16T23:08:38Z
I personally hate the Mac vs. PC debate, especially when it comes to comparing individual components and price. People like to nit-pick specs, but that's been a long-standing crapshoot for years.

Is the premium price solely about individual hardware components? Or is it about the user experience? Get what works for you!

http://socialsounddesign.com/questions/14803/how-do-you-choose-between-foam-windscreen-and-or-a-furry/14847#14847Comment by FlipstarFlipstar2012-08-10T15:22:11Z2012-08-10T15:22:11ZMy understanding is the whole point of the basket is to create an air pocket around the mic to buffer against wind. When you add the foam on your mic, you're essentially reducing the size of that air pocket with the foam.
