I'm about to make a purchase of broadcast gear for a new one-man venture. I need quality but middle-of-the-road prices.

Also, I'm conscious about look. I love how the mics on ABC's 'Duets' are being dressed. So I'm curious, are they TRAM50s or something else? Did they paint the mesh black? How? Is this a special clip working with the wire, or something they did on their own. I love this look, so help me out.

Also, what are your favorite lav mics? What about favorite on-camera wireless systems? Ideally I'd go lectro, but they can get expensive and it might not be in the budget.
